He teaches with an enthusiasm that is infectious and is in popular demand across the world, to provide Traditional African Percussion and Rhythm Sections for artists such as Baba Maal and Sona Jobarte.
Each year Oumar performs on Djembe with a huge range of UK's and international artists to include 'Dakar Audio Club' and the 'Batch Gueye Band', touring the full festival circuit. Latitude, Glastonbury, Womad, Shambala, Tropical Pressure, Isle of Wight Festival and more.
During his career, he has completed several full UK tours whilst teaching in schools and also facilitating at corporate events across the world with Drum Cafe, Trap Media, and his very own successful company, Mandinka Roots.
Oumar founded and currently manages Mandinka Roots to provide tuition and performance development across a wide range of community and private sector organisations, preserving the highest quality West African Arts in the Diaspora.
This project will see Oumar work in collaboration with high profile musicians to deliver a series of workshops in West African music, leading to a public performance.
The project will target young people and especially those with physical and mental impairment, including sensory problems, non - verbal communicators and young people with hearing and vision loss.
The project will elevate and inspire the participants, audience and artists using music to communicate an ancient and profound truth that we are all connected through the joy of rhythm.
As an teacher in West African drum and dance, Oumar Alex Sagna have been working in schools and the community for 15 years. I am currently putting together an Arts Council funded project focusing on young people with learning difficulties and disabilities and older people experiencing dementia. I am looking to work with several groups over 3 to 6 months offering tuition and building skills, mental and physical well being and joy! There may be a final showcase. In the first instance please respond with your interest and I will arrange to call you to discuss further.
There will be no cost to participants though investment of time and space will add value to the project of you get involved.
